Rita Bennett, B.A.E., Cofounder & CEO of CRA Inc.

For those who don't know me, an introduction would probably be helpful. Most people like to know who they're writing or talking to, and so a mini saga follows.

The interesting thing about my birth was that I was to some degree a Near-death Experiencer baby. That is, during my birth process my mother, Loretta Jesse Reed, was dying and experiencing a glorious heavenly City. Perhaps I had a little touch of Heaven during my birth process.

Unbeknown to me, in 1997, many decades later in my life, I would be influenced to write a book on Near-death Experiences that would help thousands of people, called To Heaven and Back. Isn't life amazing as one looks back on it?

Loretta was overweight in her pregnancy, consequently I was a very large infant weighing 9 pounds and 10 ounces. My size and the fact that she was nearly forty made my birth extremely hard on her, likely hemorrhaging at that time. Yet my mother never complained about my birth. Instead from time to time during my youth she would say something like this to me,

"Rita, I went to Heaven to get you! I saw streets of gold and gates of pearl. It was so beautiful I did not want to come back. But God sent me back to you children and my family."

I was the largest of us four at birth, but turned out to be the smallest as an adult measuring 5ft. 3 1/2 inches and now weighing 124 pounds. I have three very special older siblings born in this order Bill, Bob and Georgia. Bob, a Florida dentist, is another witness of what happened at my birth as he remembers being told by mom that she had gone to "another dimension."

The story of Heaven's other dimension was told me at least three times that I recall. I would listen and wonder about it all. As I got older she didn't talk about this experience and I didn't ask her. Perhaps I was getting more analytical with age. Only as I researched about characteristics of an NDE in 1996, after my mother's decease, did I realize my mother had one. This hit me right in the middle of writing my book! It seems I was predisposed to write on this subject even before my birth.

A Time to Write

A more conscious memory of why I wrote on eternal verities is that in 1991 I had become a widow after twenty-five years of marriage to Dennis Bennett. Dennis was to Episcopalians something like Peter Marshall was to Presbyterians. Intellectual yet a man of faith, wise and yet full of wry English humor and good jokes, born in England yet fully American, he was loved by thousands. His book about his spiritual journey, Nine O'clock in the Morning published now in fourteen countries, has inspired countless numbers of people.

Dennis and I began our book-publishing days together. After his first book, we together wrote "The Holy Spirit and You" which has sold a million books worldwide through 16 publishers. To date I've personally worked with seven strong U.S. publishers: Bridge/Logos, Aglow, Revell, Chosen Books, Baker Bookhouse, New Leaf Press, and Zondervan Publishing House. It always warms my heart to think that all these publishers and their scholarly editors believe in me enough to publish my books.

Concluding Thoughts

In my early childhood, I had left my Scottish Presbyterian roots and moved with my family to Tampa, Florida. Then later leaving the warmer climes for Seattle and the Northwest when Dennis and I were married in 1966. Now I continue the non-profit, charitable organization we had begun back in 1968 but activated in 1981 on Dennis's retirement from the pastorate.

With a jolt of Holy Spirit bravery in November 1991, I began to step forward and write what would become CRA's new quarterly newsletter, In Touch and Emotionally Free, This time writing solo. Providentially sent to help with editing were Dr. Keith Oles, retired University of Oregon professor and his artist wife, Lee. A short time later came Gigi Esnough my office manager and copy editor, and Patty Pierson graphic artist and computer whiz.

Running a small business has been a new, challenging, and time consuming experience. It has also been a time of personal growth and I feel an avenue of helping thousands of people through the products we've created, tested and proven in over three decades. Through all these changes and challenges in life, I've found that God is faithful and full of grace. (Lamentations 3:21-25).

As you'll see on this Website there are many other things Christian Renewal Association does to help bring wholeness to those we come in touch with. What I learn and what you teach me goes into my Newsletters and my books. There, now you know a few personal details about me. Let's keep in touch.
