Dove In The Sky - photo

From the The Morning Watch Newsletter - Fall 1995

On May 21, 1995 there was an interesting phenomenon in the sky over Edmonds, Washington. The dove or angel that appears in the photograph above was captured by Rosemary Weiss, a local resident .

Approximately one-hundred people saw this cloud which at the beginning of its formation was in the shape of a dove, with all the colors of the rainbow in its wings. It was very large and was the only cloud in the sky at the time. On Trinity television, I recently interviewed four witnesses. Their accounts are repeated for you here.

Anita Zinter - Retired successful escrow officer and realtor for thirty-eight years, wife and mother of three

"Standing outside my church about seventy-five people saw the amazing cloud in the sky over Edmonds. I live in Richmond Beach and saw it while driving all the way home. It was phenomenal. I was a little late so the cloud was changing shape but it certainly was angelic with every color of the rainbow.

"On my way home I saw a lady putting out a For Sale Sign. I stopped and asked her if she saw the cloud. She looked up and said, 'It looks alien to me.' When I got home at 1:10 pm it looked like a heavenly painting."

Cirila Potter - Wife and mother of four, capable business woman

"At 1:00 pm I was driving on my way to Seattle from Edmonds on Highway 104. As I looked up I saw all these colors and was looking for the rest of the rainbow but there wasn't any. The first thought that came to me was, 'Oh, Oh the end of the world!' Then I looked again and said to myself, 'It's a blob of rainbow colors.' I looked again and saw a small head and large wings.

"When I got to Seattle I said to my daughter, "I saw the strangest thing in the sky.' She asked, 'Well did you make a wish?' I said, 'All that would come out of my heart was, 'Oh Lord, Oh Lord, Oh Lord.' Monday when I mentioned it to people at work they looked at me like, 'Big deal.'

"Wednesday I went to my monthly prayer group and asked if anyone there had seen the cloud. I did this because I was still feeling overwhelmed by the experience. One woman said, 'I saw it!' I responded happily, 'You did?' 'Yes' she said. Apparently she had kids in the van with her and showed it to them. One little boy said,'That's Jesus.' Another child said, 'No, it's not, that's a dove.' I was feeling better knowing others had seen it, and now I find that many others have also."

Dirk Howe - Engineer at Boeing, married and father of three sons

"My son Jordan, a seven year old, was out in the parking lot playing around. We're frequently one of the last families leaving the Church on Sunday afternoon. He came and told us about a cloud in the sky. We went out, looked around and found there was only one cloud in the sky and it was out over the water.

"I looked up at it and it was clearly a dove in the sky. You could see the wings. You could see the head. It was a very uniquely colored cloud like I'd never seen before. I didn't see different colors but I saw it was very bright, tremendously bright, almost like the sun. Eventually other people joined us. There were ten or fifteen people watching for the next half hour as it changed into the other formations Anita was talking about.

"One thing I do remember was this cloud was stationary but it had swoop lines like the cartoonist will draw to show that something is swooping down and has motion to it. The dove was not just sitting in the sky, it was coming. I don't know what it was coming for but it definitely had motion involved with it."

Coe Hutchison - Asst. Gen. Mgr. Snohomish County PUD, married and father of two sons

"Jordan, Dirk and Sandy's son, was running through the Church announcing to anyone who would listen, 'Is Jesus coming?' or 'Jesus is coming!' I don't remember which it was. At that point my wife Janet and I decided we'd better go and check this out. When we went outside, we found the cloud was definitely in the shape of a dove and it was facing down towards the earth. The sun was shining through it and the wings were bright with colors of the rainbow.

We then ran back into the church and pulled out everybody we could, to come and see. Then as Dirk said, we all stood there in the parking lot watching. It was powerful."

DOES IT HAVE MEANING?

There we have four witnesses all having similar accounts to give. God often works with four witnesses. Look at the four accounts of the Gospel story. The Scripture says, "Out of the mouth of two or three witnesses is every word established." (Deut. 17:6, Mt. 18:16, II Cor. 13:1)

It's interesting that this message was given to people in three locations in Edmonds. Perhaps there were more but we haven't heard from others yet. Here's Cirila, a Roman Catholic who's in Renewal and a member of Holy Rosary. Anita who's Charismatic and a member of Westgate Chapel, a church in Renewal. Then Coe and Dirk, Episcopalians from St. Alban's, a church in Cursillo Renewal and Inner Healing Prayer Ministry.

Biblically we know the Dove represents the Holy Spirit Who has already come, lives in the believer, and empowers us. But we have the promise that He will come in a greater way in the final days of the Church. The Prophet Joel says, "Be glad then, children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for He has given you the former rain moderately, and He will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month" (Joel 2:23 KJV Mod. - read the chapter, also Acts 2).

The Rainbow reminds us of the Noahic Covenant God made with Noah, his offspring, and those to follow, that He would never again flood the earth. God had caused the flood at that time to cleanse it from the evil of its inhabitants and to start over (Genesis 9:8-17).

Scripture also teaches there will be wonders in the heavens and signs in earth during the Last Days (Acts 2:19). Clouds are significant both in Old and New Testaments. Jesus ascended in a cloud and will come back in a cloud (Acts 1:9-12).

I guess the message to all of us is to keep looking up. Elijah, after a 3 1/2 year drought and famine, knew from the prompting of the Holy Spirit that rain was coming. He sent his servant 7 times to check out the clouds. The seventh time he came with the news there was a cloud the shape of a man's hand. This is a message of the blessing of God being on Elijah, and the rains surely came (I Kings 18:41-46).

The rain of God's Spirit has been falling right along. It will come in greater measure for all who are watching and praying: in Edmonds, in the United States, and in every Country of the world.
