by Rita Bennett How many treasures do you have in your life? Your loved ones, spouse, family and friends, your pets, house, boat or plane, other property, food, water, clothing, sleep, and so on. Hopefully you also have the spiritual treasures of your Father God, your Savior, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, awe of the Lord, eternal life, Heaven, angels, spiritual gifts, spiritual fruit, talents, gift of repentance, your church fellowship, spiritual leaders, and life itself. This question of naming your treasures could be an exercise that ends up in a very long treatise indeed. Get out a large roll of paper, such as white wrapping paper, and start writing. Your whole life could be on this scroll! In
Hebrew, the word for treasure is o-tsar. Hebrew
letters all have literal and spiritual meanings. The root
letters for treasure reading from right to left are:
Aleph
In the first commandment God says, "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me" (Exodus 20:2,3 KJV mod.). Tsahdee
In Psalm 119:137-144 there are eight verses that all begin with the Hebrew letter tsahdee. Read the verses and see what God says concerning this section, each beginning with the letter for righteousness. I particularly like the tsahdee or tsahdik verse, "Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your torah is the truth" (v. 142 KJV mod.). You can see this formation with the 22 Hebrew letters in octaves, or groups of eight, all the way through Psalm 119 in the KJV or NIV versions of the Bible. Of course, in the actual Hebrew Psalms the tsahdee letter is most clearly seen at the actual beginning of each line. The above eight verses (Ps. 137-144) show those specifically beginning with tsahdee. Rehsh
If we are to have the best treasures, we must be under our Lord and Messiah Jesus. All of His treasures we will inherit because we are joined to Him and under His headship. We are joint-heirs with Christ. "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be glorified together" (Romans 8:16, 17 KJV mod.). God's Otsar, or treasure trove, is assured to us if we live according to God's Hebrew meaning for the word. Remember, Hebrew was the language of the average people during Jesus' life on earth, and the language He read from in the written Scroll of the Torah or first five books of the Bible (also called Books of Moses). Jesus (Yeshuah) chose to live as one of the common people of His day. He did not attend the University of Jerusalem! He was a working man, a carpenter, fisherman; then later a teacher, preacher, and worker of miracles. These Hebrew letters meant something important to Him since he was from the tribe of Judah. He undoubtedly still sees their importance from His throne in Heaven. Aleph: Put God (Elohim): Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, first in our lives. Tsahdee: We've put off our own tarnished garments and have donned Christ's (Mashach's) robe of righteousness (Tsahdik). Rehsh: We are under Christ's headship (Rosh) and by grace are heirs of spiritual treasures with Him. Our Lord spoke to us of treasures. "Lay not up for yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupts, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:19-21 KJV mod). The greatest treasure we can contemplate especially this time of year, is the incarnation of the life of God through the Virgin Mary. The angel Gabriel told Mary (Miriam) she was chosen of God to bear in her body the gift of all gifts, the life of God made man in Christ Jesus (Luke 1:30-38). God became man so that man could come to God. All this happened so that man could be rescued from sin, self-centeredness, and eternal separation from God, and could be assured of everlasting life with God, the angels, and all those who are redeemed. I
hope and pray that you have or will receive this greatest
treasure, and then know that the others will surely follow.
