US RibbonDear America and Friends around the world,

Rita Bennett offers 3 messages in the wake of the Sept 11, 2001 attacks on America.

We at the Emotionally Free Website and Christian Renewal Association convey condolences to the thousands of people who lost friends and loved ones in the September 11th attack on America. We pray for a speedy recovery for all injured and for emotional healing from the trauma of it all. I'm sure we will all continue to pray for wisdom and protection for President George W. Bush, America's government and leaders, and for those in the Armed Forces being sent to defend freedom for us all.

Some may wonder "Where was God in all this. Why didn't He warn us?" As I thought about this, I realized our Father had been speaking to me three specific times this year - though I often have trouble believing He loves me that much. Then too, I don't always understand Him fully. Sometimes I understand better in retrospect! Maybe you had some warning experiences this year also. Let me explain mine.

1st message: On February 28th God spoke to me in the earthquake. February 28th of this year, 2001, you will remember the Olympia, Puget Sound area in the Northwest had a 6.8, 30 mile deep earthshaking experience. Feeling the floor of one's house tremble for nearly a minute is an unnerving experience. There was quite a lot of damage to the Northwest environs but an amazingly small amount considering the magnitude of the quake. The 28th "happened to be" Ash Wednesday and that day many people go to church to be reminded "From dust you came and from dust you shall return" (Gen.3:19). A little bit of black ash is put on one's forehead. This is a humbling experience and it prepares believers for Holy Week's feast days: [Pesach (Hebrew) - Passover, or Good Friday (Christian) ; Yom Hag HaMatzah - Unleavened Bread, or Holy Saturday; and Yom Bikkurim - Feast of First Fruits, or Resurrection Sunday]. In the ancient prayers from "The Book of Common Prayer" the Old Testament reading that night was from the Prophet Joel written during his lifetime from 795 - 755 BCE. The verses seemed quite appropriate: "Blow the trumpet [shofar] in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; for the day of the LORD is coming, for it is at hand . . . (Joel 2:1, an exhortation to repentance)." The Day of the Lord is a big subject we cannot get into here but looking back from September 11th, this verse and following ones seem even more profound. I did blow the shofar message as best I could in a newsletter, and my hometown newspaper "The Edmond's Beacon" that published my article "Our Earthquake and a Touch of Grace." God even signed His signature to the earthquake. A shop in Port Townsend with a sand tracing pendulum for earth movement detection, found after the quake a perfect rose had been drawn in the sand with what looks like the outline of an eye around it. I felt it was signed by The Rose of Sharon Himself (Song of Songs 2:1). Also there was the Father's remembrance that He and Judah, the tribe into which He was born, are the apple of His eye (Ps. 17:8, Zec. 2:8). (See the rose at www.earthquakerose.com).

2nd message: God gave me a word. Several months later, on April 4th, I woke up with one word emphatically on my mind. It was "woe." I laid in bed wondering why this word was so strongly on my mind and felt this could be from the Lord. He doesn't speak as we do with lots of words; it may be just one or a few words and it may not be repeated. To check it out I e-mailed an elder in the faith, Dr. Amos Millard, who sent me a list of all the "woes" in the Bible. That, my friend, is a lot of "woes"! I knew in the Book of Revelation there were a series of "woes" mentioned leading up to Messiah's return. I still didn't get the message though I prayed a bit about it. My natural mind told me "Don't worry about it. It may just be something you read before retiring." The word impacted me enough to write the date and my impressions in my journal. Often we humans have this kind of battle between the soul and spirit, between the natural man and the spiritual man.

3rd message: July 5th God spoke in a dream. That day I awoke after a startling dream. In it I saw a huge tree lifted out of the earth; it then shot across the sky horizontally. I knew it was going somewhere to do some destruction, but I was thankful to realize I was safe. While still in the dream I told a woman about it and said, "I wonder if this was an end time, cataclysmic event." She wasn't so sure and rather discounted such things including end time prophecy. I wrote it down in my journal, dating it as usual. I don't think I told anyone about it or perhaps just my closest friends. I probably prayed about it but, sorry to say, I still didn't take it too seriously. I may still have more understanding revealed to me about this dream.

And then September 11th hit! We now realize we've entered into the unstable 21st Century with people who want what we have and will do anything to take it from us. Their theory is that "the most brutal ones win." Their so-called "winning" is only temporary as they will have an eternity of "losing." Hopefully they won't continue to "win" through terrorism in this present life either.

Take Time to Listen and Then to Pray

What I want to say to you is in the days ahead we will need to hear God's voice more clearly to protect our families and ourselves. I'd like to encourage you to journal what you believe the Lord is saying to you. Dates are important so be sure to write them down. Pay attention to your dreams, yet remember not all of them are from God. In time you will know the difference. Share with close praying friends what you feel God is saying, humbly realizing that you might not be fully getting the message. He is speaking to His sheep but sometimes we sheep aren't quite sure how to interpret what we hear (John 10:3,27). With experience, you as well as I, will understand more fully and we will learn to act more quickly. With these experiences, be sure to be a student of the Bible. The Word will be an important source of confirmation and oftentimes He will speak directly through a scripture passage.

I invite you to share with me what you feel the Lord has been saying to you through His biblical gifts (I Cor. 12:7-11) and scripture. As led, I may add some of the responses to this page to encourage others. The "Heaven Tour" on this website would also be a help for those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy. Thomas Moore said, "Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal." I pray that you'll experience a touch of Heaven today.

Faithfully in His healing love,

Rita Bennett
