EMOTIONALLY FREE FOR AFRICA
by Gail Patton

With his invitation to SOMA USA, the Rt. Rev. Simon Chiwanga of Mpwapwa Diocese in Tanzania opened another door toward fulfillment of a vision to teach, train and release materials in the language of the people. That vision began in 1999 as God spoke to my heart during a SOMA Mission to the Rift Valley Diocese of Tanzania. This year our international team took a course on soul-healing prayer to Mpwapwa. Through agreement with Mrs. Rita Bennett and Christian Renewal Association Inc. (CRA) in Edmonds, Washington, Rita's Course, Emotionally Free®, was modified, translated, printed and taught in Kiswahili. Four thousand copies of Emotionally Free for East Africa were printed, and 1,450 were distributed during the four conferences held.

A Core Team of 50+ Tanzanians from different congregations in Mpwapwa Diocese worked and traveled with the SOMA team from September 20 to October 13. The first conference was conducted by the SOMA team, but with each successive conference, more of the responsibility for intercession, planning, teaching and prayer ministry was "handed off" to the Core Team. Isaiah 61:1-3, James 2:5 and I Thes. 5:23-24 were God's words to them.

During conferences, the Holy Spirit came. People were convicted of sin and entered into a relationship with Jesus. Many were delivered from cult and occult involvement, some bringing herbs and amulets from the witch doctor to be burned.Through confession, repentance and forgiveness, doors were opened for healing of memories from wounds to the spirit of men and women and there was reconciliation in the Body of Christ. God blessed and empowered, the mute spoke, the blind were given sight, "Legion" was cast out and generations were set free.

This is an ongoing ministry. SOMA established a resource center in Tanzania to provide material for future conferences in Africa. Tanzanian Core Teams have already held conferences in Mpwapwa and the Rift Valley Diocese. Please pray for SOMA and the Core Team as we go forward. We are seeking funding to print 6,000 additional copies of the Kiswahili text and will continue to refine this format for use in other countries as God leads.

Our lead article by Gail Patton is very exciting to me. Gail has taught the Emotionally Free® Course with Christian Renewal since 1993. In 1999 she went on her first mission trip to East Africa with the missionary group called Sharing of Ministries Abroad (SOMA) USA. She asked and received permission from me to teach the people from the Emotionally Free Course. With the results seen in the Tanzanians lives, Gail felt strongly that these Soul Healing ministry tools should be made available for the East African people. She went back the next year and felt even more confirmed about this idea.

A PERSONAL WORD
by RITA BENNETT

Gail and I were breaking new ground. We didn't know exactly how to do what God had called us to do! Where should the booklet be printed, in theUS or Africa? Who would translate it? How wouldsuch aprojectbe financed? What kind ofdocument shouldCRA havein sharingthe Emotionally Free Basic Course with SOMA and the East African people? After we both had inner confirmation, I encouraged Gail to begin condensing the Course so it would be more understandable by the East African people. Also the people needed to be able to eventually teach the material themselves, and in their own Kiswahili language.

I was thrilled last year, 2003, when an attractive yellow booklet arrived at our Christian Renewal office in Edmonds entitled, "Uhuru wa Kihisia" by Rita Bennett, edited by Gail Patton. In my early twenties I had considered being a missionary to Africa, and now it was happening through the soul healing course I'd been writing and rewriting, and teaching since 1983. I am now going to Africa by the written word.

I'm grateful to Edwina Thomas, National Director of SOMA, for her teamwork and support, in the establishment of the Emotionally Free soul healing ministry in East Africa. There are requests coming in from other parts of Africa where SOMA may be facilitating this ministry in the future.

Also the Rev. Mike Messina, Rector of St. Patrick's Church, Ocala, Florida, Emotionally Free teacher and East Coast Representative, is preparing this year to take the ministry to their adopted sister church in South Africa.

Through Gail's vision, a prototype has been developed that can be translated into other dialects faster. The first time is always the hardest. Now the fire of the Holy Spirit in Soul (Inner) Healing Prayer will be able to move faster throughout Africa! Can I hear some applause and praise to God for this miracle?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP?

Neither SOMA or CRA make anything financially from this venture, but our bank account in Heaven will certainly be increased! All glory to God.

Sharing Ministries Abroad needs funds for the job of printing thousands of Emotionally Free Course booklets, and for travel expenses to go to Africa, to minister and train the people. If you'd like to help them write to: SOMA, 5290 Saratoga Lane, Woodbridge, Virginia 22193.

Christian Renewal Association Inc. also needs funds for the time it takes to write, proof, research, and facilitate such missionary projects, also in completing our new Emotionally Free Basic Media Course useful anywhere on the planet, and the constant at home ministry that goes out from our office around the world. If you'd like to help us write to: CRA, P.O. Box 576, Edmonds, WA 98020.

NEWS FROM THE CRA OFFICE

Gigi Esnough has retired after working at CRA for over eleven years. She wants to spend more time with her two daughters and to have more time to babysit her four beautiful grandchildren. Thanks to her husband Dale and family for sharing her with us. We'll miss her.

God is faithful and has sent us another Spirit-filled Christian, Randi Bishop, to be on our CRA Team. Randi is a widow and a grandmother, has a gentle spirit and a happy personality. She's good in finances which is important. Patty Pierson, our graphics designer, and I are enjoying getting to know our new friend, Randi. Thanks to Aglow for the recommendation!

Do you know that Dennis's old Mac Computer he left behind at his death in 1991, is still what we use for Graphic Design in our office? This is a miracle since the machine was at least five years old when Dennis died. This is year 2004 now. That means it is about 18 years old. We've added little things to it to increase the memory but we're at the Max. This is a prayer request.

TESTIMONIES FROM TANZANIA

"Before we left the USA, one of our intercessors [in prayer-vision] saw the witchdoctors loose lions against our team; but God closed the lions' mouths. The enemy was powerless against us and what God was doing. More than once our team was confronted by forces of darkness. One of the most visible testimonies to all of God's power to us was a mad man who was "sent" to the second conference to curse us and what God was doing. This man was very much like the demonic Jesus encountered in the regions of the Gerasenes in Mark 5. Jesus touched the little child within this mad man and brought healing and deliverance. Today he lives a normal, productive life and attends church in that village! We encountered people who had their own agenda or wanted things done the way they had always been done. These too were ineffective. God brought unity with His purposes. There was so much to be accomplished. It felt like we were doing so little, but God's call to us was to do just what he asked. He would do the rest.

On the way to teach and minister in soul-healing prayer, healing from life's hurts, God brought miracles. We witnessed a girl mute from birth speak; her first word was 'Baba' which means Father God in Kiswahili. One man, whom God convicted of sin, repented and brought everything the witchdoctor had given him, to be burned and the ash disposed of. Afterward he appeared visibly lighter to all who saw him; there was a new joy about him. Sight improved; pain from heart problems went away. So many people came to a real relationship with Jesus, and many were delivered from involvement with the occult that had come through their own sins and the sins of their ancestors. God healed spirit, soul, and body." (by Gail Patton)

"The two questions: (1) Do you have a relationship with Jesus and, (2) Have you renounced the cult and occult involvement for you and your family, were crucial. Lots of people were coming to faith in a simple way rather than the methods we were using in the past that would embarrass them."

"God has brought peace in my heart. We didn't know we could pray to God and He could bring this kind of peace to our lives."

"The teachings have brought confidence to pray for ourselves and for others."

"We have discovered different gifts."

"I thought to pray for others was a gift for just a few, but I have learned that any Christian can pray for others."

"Forgiveness was powerful in my life. The chain of inheritance we have realized is a problem."

"We learned much we did not understand before. We have learned to pray in a very effective way. Before I did not respect any other book that was not the Bible; now I have respect for this book."

"The teachers (Tanzanian) tried their best and received their responsibility that was a very good thing; therefore, there is a clear transition of Emotionally Free teachings to us."

"I thank God for what has been shared with us and we now should pass it to others."
