8. Redeemer, High Priest, King

Though this picture of Jesus Christ is a symbolic one, through it we can discover many of His ministries. It is not meant to show how Jesus looked and dressed when on earth, but it gives a glimpse of Him in Heaven.

Jesus was called Yeshua by His Jewish brethren, which meant in Hebrew, Savior or Salvation (Matthew 1:21, Isaiah 7:14). Why did He need to save us? Because of humankind's original disobedience which made our race traitors to God - the LORD (Adonai). Consequently humankind's allegiance, and the title deed of the earth (which had been given to the human race) were handed over to the original fallen angel and traitor to God, lucifer - satan.1 Here began the battle of the ages to win back that which was lost.

The battle required God's only Son to give His life as a ransom for the human race. Yes, a sovereign God could have given up on us, wiped us out and started over again. Yet, because He loved His creation His Son was willing to be born of the virgin Mary, grow, live, die, (be resurrected and ascend) as a ransom for humankind's deliverance from satan, the most evil ruler of the kingdom of darkness ever known on earth or in the universe.

A perfect sacrifice was required and only the Son of God, Jesus Christ2 qualified. Human beings now have the way to break allegiance with the kingdom of darkness and join the Kingdom of light, that is, by renouncing satan, by saying "yes" to Jesus Christ and receiving Him as the great redeemer. Colossians 1:13 says, ". . . Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the Kingdom of His dear Son (KJV mod.3). The earth only has light where people have chosen God's Kingdom of light. One day the title deed of the world will be fully reclaimed by Jesus Christ, Lamb of God (Revelation chapter five). That is a victory yet to come.

Seated at the Right Hand
In this illustration note that our Redeemer and Messiah is seated at the right hand of His Father's throne. ". . . Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places . . ." (Ephesians 1:20 KJV mod, and v.21 ). (Also see Psalm 110:1, I Peter 3:22)

His Eternal Wounds
Here it seems He is telling us and showing us about the wounds in His hands. They reveal how He died by the most cruel form of crucifixion. Yeshua Mashiach (Jesus Christ) chose to give His life for us; in fact, Scripture shows that was the reason He was born. He laid down His life for us willingly and we, a sinful human race, are corporately responsible for His death (John 10:17-18, Romans 3:10, 23, Exodus 12:6).

A Crown of Gold and Gems
In place of the crown of thorns He wore at His death, we show Him wearing a glorious crown because He is King of kings and Lord of lords (I Timothy 6:15, Revelation 17:14, 19:16). A further coronation of many crowns will be given at a later time (Revelation 19:12). We chose the golden crown for Christ, though we realize Aaron the high priest would have worn a mitre of fine linen with a gold plate over the forehead saying "Holiness to The Lord."

Tallith with Star of David
The prayer shawl (tallith) shown here is not scripturally mentioned as being in Heaven but we felt it represented His Jewishness and His prayer life on earth. He still has a Jewish body though it is now glorified. That means His body is no longer subject to physical death, can walk through walls, doesn't need to have regular meals, and is not confined by time or space (Luke 24:36-43, John 20:25). When our ninth picture is ready, I'll explain an interesting connection about the tallith and Heaven.

Shining Breastplate
Sally and I wanted to show Jesus as High Priest as He presently is in His Home above where He prays as our intercessor. The first high priest in the Old Testament was Aaron, Moses's brother. We know from the biblical description what a high priest wears. Of course, a high priest would not wear a tallith over his breastplate as we show in our composite, symbolic picture here. The breastplate had 12 kinds of precious stones representing the twelve tribes of Israel who were shielded from judgement as the high priest went before God once a year on their behalf during the Day of Atonement.

Linen garment and blue ephod
Yeshua, our great and only High Priest, wore a white linen garment and over that a shorter blue ephod. On the bottom of the ephod were embroidered pomegranates, and bells, in alternating sequence (Leviticus 16:4, Exodus 28:33,34). Dennis and I in our book "The Holy Spirit and You" tell how these can symbolically represent the nine fruit (pomegranates) and the nine bells (gifts) of the Spirit (I Corinthians 12:7-11; [chapts. 12,13,14, bells, pomegranates, bells]; Galatians 5:22,23).

Christ took His own blood to His Father to complete the High Priest's sacrificial work (Hebrews 3:1, John 20:17). The book of Hebrews says, ". . . We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all" (Hebrews 10:10; also v. 11-14). No more sacrifices are needed for God's people. It was finished, completed, forever.

See the Light
I hope you have received the Redeemer of humankind, King of the universe into your life as He has invited you to (John 3:16, Revelation 3:20). If so send Jesus the Messiah an RSVP prayer saying yes, right away. If you've joined the Kingdom of Light, tell us - or some other interested party - so you can be helped further.

Notes: 1. The name of satan I've chosen not to capitalize. (Isaiah 14:12-15, John 8:44, I Peter 5:8) 2. Jesus is called Christ or the anointed One: in Greek - Christos, in Hebrew - Mashiach. 3. Scripture used here is from the King James Bible which has been modernized.
